Trauma and Life Challenges
Trauma can take the form of a lot of different experiences and challenges. It’s not so much about the specifics of what happened to you but more about how capable you felt in responding to or dealing with what happened to you. If you felt incapable of responding to a situation in a way that felt aligned with your best self then that can be stored in your brain as a traumatic experience. I’m here to help you identify what experiences may have created a trauma response for you and help you teach yourself what you need to change that message. As an EMDR practitioner, I use bi-lateral stimulation and cognitive behavioral therapy to help you identify when these trauma responses developed and how to learn a new way of responding to them. You can learn more about EMDR in the FAQ portion of this website.
I am pursuing training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner through Somatic Experiencing International. I am already a 500 hour trained yoga instructor. Through these trainings, I have learned how to help you acknowledge how your body responded, and continues to respond to traumatic events and life stressors. We can work together to determine practices that help you learn how to work with those body responses, which is important, because they impact your thoughts and feelings too! We can practice presence and mindfulness to help you live more fully in the moment and notice the connection, safety, and joy that is available to you here, in the present!
***For those who live in marginalized bodies; such as individuals identifying as trans, non-binary, neurodivergent, ethnic minorities, and in large bodies, I recognize that safety is not always available to you. As an individual who is learning to recognize my own privilege, I see I often have unlearning to do to understand the challenges facing others. Therefore, my first priority is in learning from your experience to ensure I am understanding the unique challenges you face and the resilience practices you have already developed to ensure we are targeting your treatment in a way that encompasses your needs. This may include me helping you access additional resources or referring you to providers who can support you in accessing these.
